Weekends are usually spent doing things that somehow indulge one’s craving for bliss. What could be more blissful than to dine leisurely at Opal by Gordon Ramsay?

The Raw Friday Brunch is said to guide diners on an explosive journey. I doubt anyone would deliberately want anything exploding on their plates, but the menu promises everything and anything that one could possibly want on a weekend.

The restaurant offers one of the best views in Doha, overlooking the bay surrounding The Pearl-Qatar. Even the cozy tables are set out for a long, leisurely meal. It’s hard to imagine being anywhere else.

A roaming oyster man offered oyster shots, with lime and a bottle of Tabasco hanging on his oyster belt. Once you’ve had your first oyster (you can have as much as you want), you know that more things (or food) are coming your way.

We started with the sushi selection, with the raw and the fresh and the crunchy deliciously ‘exploding’ in the mouth. Prawns, tuna and salmon are served three ways – maki, tataki and au naturelle, with dressings complimenting the ‘rawness’ of the sea bounty.

Fresh salads followed not long after. The peach and endives salad, with Feta cheese and toasted almonds created a whole new impression on healthy. And you’ll love the colours! A must try, if we may say so.

Main Course and Desserts

There are several options for the main course: classic breakfast staples are available (Eggs Benedict and scrambled egg) or you can go straight to what we assume is their lunch option. We are, after all, having Brunch.

The roasted Australian ribeye was served in just the right portion but you might also want to get the baby chicken, for good measure.

Desserts Opal Raw brunch

While sweet endings do justice to a wonderful meal, Opal took it a notch higher with four classic desserts: the British Eton mess, the Spanish churros con chocolate, the French Pain perdu and the ubiquitous chocolate tart with caramel ice cream. You can try everything and enjoy the pleasure of sampling different textures (imagine smooth ice cream with honeycomb and meringue). Or you can also opt to concentrate on the less sinful Eton mess. The minty strawberry flavour could leave you craving for a cupful more.

The Raw Friday Brunch at Opal by Gordon Ramsay at The St. Regis Doha, is available from 12:30 pm until 4 pm, QAR 200 per person inclusive of soft beverages and QAR 300 per person inclusive of enhanced beverages. For reservations, call 4446 0007.
