Al Shaqab, member of Qatar Foundation, is organising a series of Community Fairs as part of its community engagement initiative.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (Baladiya) and the Quranic Botanic Garden (QBG), the inaugural Al Shaqab Community Fair, will feature Qatar, its local honey, flowers and Kanar, the fruit of the Sidra Tree. The Sidra tree and its fruit are the iconic symbol of the country’s heritage. It is related to the Qatari culture and has grown in the deserts of Qatar for generations.
The first Al Shaqab Community Fair will be held from 11 – 17 February at the Al Shaqab Outdoor Arena Concourse from 9 am to 5 pm. The event will also coincide with the 27th Qatar International Show (11- 2 February), Qatar National Sports Day (13 Feb) and Hathab – Qatar Equestrian Tour (16-17 February). Visitors will not only enjoy the Community Fair but also have the opportunity to watch and participate in other events taking place at Al Shaqab.
Part of the objective of the Community Fair is to educate children on the indigenous products of Qatar. Towards this end, the following workshops will be conducted by QBG and Baladiya for the duration of the Community Fair:
WORKSHOP 1 – Journey Into Flowers (10 am – 11 am). A closer and more personal look at flowers. The workshop will provide visitors with a better understanding of the pollination process.
WORKSHOP 2 – Future Proofing – Growing Plants for Qatar (11 am – 12 pm). Visitors will discover the unlimited benefits of plants to our environment, community and heritage. With support from Baladiya and QBG, participants will learn how to grow plants, which they can actually take home.
In addition to the workshops, children can also participate in a Flower Planting Competition. Prizes will be awarded to the best growing plant two weeks after the end of the Community Fair. Bouncing castles and pony rides will be available for young children. Admission is free.
