Anima Gallery presents solo exhibition “Gravity” by Qatari artist Amal Al Aathem from 9 April to 30 June 2018.
Gravity is what attracts Amal’s characters to their universe. Her silhouettes of women are bolder and larger than in her earlier paintings. Her strokes are soft in places and thick and defiant in others. Her colours are pale and serene with vibrant strong layers. Her characters are still women looking into the future, but now interacting with their environment. We see them as part of an interactive society, present and moving forward.Amal Al Aathem speaks for women. Through the subtle messages in her paintings, you can trace the development of women’s role and their place in a fast-changing environment and a global universe. The paintings in ‘Gravity’are challenging, colourful and proud.
Outside the lunar scope, ‘gravity’ created an existence for the universes of multiple cosmic orbits; extensional figures inter-attract through paths that define their existence in a colour group, formed from the colour of the Earth’s soil, the purity of grass, the clarity of clouds and the tenderness of the sea. It is a story told by the cosmic gravity, where the duality of combining personal details and public symbols is reflected in dramatic tales that have shaped a certain pattern for each of these universes.
Every artwork is an idea that expresses the spiritual dimensions, creating inter-attraction among its orbits forming varied social content, that emerges through the terrain of such work piece; the texture of the surfaces and the different influences.
The general elements of the artwork revolve around a historic centre of gravity with a unique identity that transcends the workspace; reflecting a more spacious society in a larger orbit.
