Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) launched a delightful new children’s tale, Funny Ducklings, by first-time author Zoya Anjum at Qatar-Finland International School.

Students in Grade 2 were all delighted to hear the inventive tale that aims to encourage young readers to never shy away from helping someone in need while imagining the impossible.

Anjum, a resident of Qatar, was inspired to write the book when she saw the joy in her own children as she read them classic tales like Dr Seuss, and saw their positive reaction to such fantastical stories.

By reading the Dr Seuss’s books, I learned that complex ideas can be expressed in a language that kids can understand and enjoy. Making sure that the language is easy to understand and fun for kids was a challenge, but in the end I think that kids can really take something away from the book while enjoying it all the same.’

According to Jameela Sultan Al Mass Al Jassim, Arabic Editor at HBKU Press, they are always looking for new children’s books that teach and entertain. She said that the book, Funny Ducklings, is a quirky tale that is sure to engage children, and can even be used in school as a teaching tool.

This is the first collaboration between Qatar-Finland International School and HBKU Press, explained Minna Repo, the school’s Lead Expert.

It is such a wonderful opportunity for children to have an author read to them. We are particularly happy to have Zoya here as she has been with the school as a Learning Assistant since its opening. Having her write something that is so relevant to children in the community is inspiring, to say the least.’

Funny Ducklings is perfect for children four to seven years old. Copies are now available in bookstores across Qatar.
