The Early Intervention Programme at Rumailah Hospital’s Child Development Centre, part of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), organised a training workshop for families of patients on the proper use of car safety seats for children with special needs.

The training workshop, held in collaboration with the Hamad International Training Centre (HITC), included at least 30 family members of the Centre’s young patients.

Shameem Ahmed, Programme Coordinator at Rumailah Hospital’s Child Development Centre, said that the workshop demonstrates HMC’s commitment to providing the safest, most effective and most compassionate care to all its patients by spreading awareness among parents on practices that will promote safety and well-being of children.

The workshop, conducted by seven expert technicians from HITC, included teaching participants how to select the right car seat based on their child’s age, weight, and height. The aim was to help parents keep their children safe while travelling inside vehicles.

Ahmed stressed the importance of using car safety seats especially since vehicle accidents are the major cause of death amongst children aged one to 13 years in Qatar.

Placing children in proper safety car seats in the back seat of vehicles minimises the risk of injury to the head, neck, and spine.’

Participating parents expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to take part in the training. They also thanked HMC for the care and support extended to children patients.
