The awarding ceremony for the Ministry of Interior (MOI) Security Research Prize was held this Sunday, 2 September at the Officers Club of the Civil Defence, under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The competition for 2017-2018 focused on the topic, ‘Enhancing Intellectual Security in Qatari Society’.

Brigadier Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Mahanna, Director General of Police College and President of the Security Research Award Committee, explained the award, and how the winners were selected. Research and study centres in universities, together with the Police College and the Police Training Institute collaborate with the initiative to raise the level of intellectual security among the Qatari society.

As research and study centres find solutions based on systematic and scientific processes for different challenges, this award has been directed to this important segment of Qatari society to achieve security and stability through the application of scientific methods; to provide solutions and proposals that achieve these objectives.’

The Director General of Public Security, Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi awarded the certificates to winners and judges. First prize was won by Dr Wadha Matar Murshid Al Nuaimi (Ministry of Education and Higher Education) while second and third prizes were won by Laila Fadl Hamad Al Sada (MOI) and Ameena Mohammed Shafee Al Ansari (Ministry of Municipality and Environment), respectively.

The researches focused on the concept of intellectual security, the link between national security and intellectual security and the role of family, education and the media in enhancing intellectual security. All winners used scientific methods and appropriate tools to arrive at the best results and come up with strategies to enhance intellectual security within the Qatari community.
