People in Qatar Commemorate First Year of Blockade

Different groups in Qatar organised various activities to commemorate the first year anniversary of the blockade. From exhibitions featuring artworks on the crisis to cars parading and showing solidarity, these events are manifestations of how strong the country remains despite the crisis.

Porsche Centre Doha and Porsche Club Qatar members gathered together to commemorate one year of the blockade through a convoy which started at the Porsche Centre Doha showroom at The Pearl-Qatar.


Qatar Museums Install Public Arts to Commemorate

Qatar Museums (QM) unveiled two public art installations by British artist Martin Creed and emerging Qatari ARToonist Ghada Al Khater. The artworks mark the one-year anniversary of the blockade against Qatar, commemorating a historic time of unprecedented national solidarity and the power of hope that brought the people of Qatar together. 


Qatar University (QU) recently hosted a seminar on the ongoing blockade against Qatar to discuss the consequences of the crisis at the local, regional and international levels. HE Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani was the guest of honour at the seminar, held at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and Convention Hotel.

Titled, ‘A Year of Blockade: Current Situation and Future Aspirations’, the seminar gave an academic perspective on the effect of the blockade on Qatar and the region in terms of international relations and law. HE Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani was joined by QU President Dr Hassan Al Derham and other officials from QU.


Katara Blockade Exhibition Rashid Al Kuwari

Patriotism through creativity is at the core of two art exhibitions at Katara Cultural Village that marked the one year since the unjust siege was imposed on Qatar on 5 June of last year.

Portraits, cartoons, paintings, caricatures and photographs are showcased at the exhibitions that present a scathing criticism of the siege countries and patriotic representation of Qatar’s heroic resistance against the blockade.

Baladna blockadeBaladna, Qatar’s largest local dairy producer, marked a year of the blockade at the Corniche while celebrating the spirit of sharing and giving of Ramadan. Baladna distributed fresh milk and laban products at Iftar time to the public.


Remember When… Exhibition at Art 29

Qatari artists Mubarak Al Thani and Ghada Al Khater remember the year it was after the blockade against Qatar through their artworks displayed now at W Doha’s Art 29 Gallery.
