Qatar Airways Touches Down At Penang International Airport

QR Inaugural Flight to Penang

The first non-stop flight of Qatar Airways to Penang touched down at Penang International Airport, inaugurating the airline’s second destination in Malaysia.

Boeing Dreamliner PenangQatar Airways flight QR 850, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, departed Hamad International Airport (HIA) on Tuesday at 2:30 am and arrived at Penang International Airport at 2:30 pm on 6 February 2018.

The delegation was led by Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer Ehab Amin, and was accompanied by HE Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, the Malaysian Ambassador to the State of Qatar.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said that the direct flights to Penang has been a long-anticipated addition to their global route network. Qatar Airways started their service to Kuala Lumpur in 2001, which has since grown to a triple-daily direct non-stop service to and from Doha.

The addition of Penang to our global network comes as part of our continued expansion plans throughout Eastern Asia, as we have recently launched direct services to Thailand’s Chiang Mai and Pattaya, and to Krabi, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.’

Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang also expressed his excitement with the new service.

At a press conference held at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang shortly after the inaugural flight arrival, Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer Ehab Amin, announced that the Penang route will be boosted to a four-times-weekly frequency effective 1 July 2018.

Until then, Qatar Airways will fly three times a week to Penang with its state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which features 22 seats in Business Class and 232 seats in Economy Class, with spacious cabins and specially-designed interiors.

The national carrier of the State of Qatar is one of the world’s fastest-growing airlines operating a modern fleet of more than 200 aircraft flying to business and leisure destinations across six continents.
