Nine start-ups flew in from South Korea and had the chance to participate in Demo Day 9 by pitching their business ideas to the audience. The Korean start-ups also did some networking throughout the day with key members of the local entrepreneurial ecosystem in hopes of discovering potential opportunities.

Aysha Al Mudahka, QBIC CEO said they were able to collaborate with Kstartups on many different levels following the MoU with them last year.

We visited them in South Korea, shared knowledge and explored investment opportunities – and now we are welcoming them to Qatar. Our plan for them this time around was to expand our collaboration and introduce them to a variety of different local stakeholders in hopes of providing them with the opportunity to explore new ventures with these companies, and by the same token allowing local organisations to benefit from their experience and diverse market expertise.’

Daeho Kim, Chairman of the Korea Startups Association ‘Kstartups’, said that throughout the trip, they were able to meet and interact with many different key organisations in Qatar, from which they gained invaluable insights into the local economy and possible routes of collaboration.

One of the aspects we strongly believe is helping Qatar achieve its growth goals are the many different international events hosted here. We believe that our partnership with QBIC will continue to help us move forward in the right direction and build on the solid business relationships we’ve established during our time in Qatar.’

During their visit, they were introduced to some of the key players within Qatar’s business and entrepreneurial ecosystems including QDB, Ooredoo, Qatar Airways, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, QFC, QSTP and DIC – in hopes of developing partnerships and potential business partners and investors. The ‘Kstartups’ team was also introduced to Qatar’s key landmarks and the rich local culture and heritage.
