Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) announced the winners of the Qatar Sustainability Awards 2017 during a gala dinner sponsored by Tadmur Holding.

The second edition of the annual awards ceremony took place at the City Centre Rotana Hotel in Doha this Sunday, 29 October, as part of Qatar Sustainability Week 2017, which was held alongside the Qatar Green Building Conference.

The awards aim to recognise the efforts, commitment, and achievements of individuals, institutions, and organisations in furthering sustainable development and environmental protection in Qatar and in other parts of the world.

QGBC Director Engineer Meshal Al Shamari said he was hoping that the awards inspire and raise awareness on sustainability and encourage the wider community to play their part in working towards reaching the sustainable development goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Tadmur Holding CEO Dafer Hallawa was all praise on the remarkable projects presented within Qatar Sustainability Week.

It has been a great honour to sponsor Qatar Sustainability Awards 2017 and to witness a substantial growth on green practices in the country. We have especially recognised an innovative concept for the maximisation of water and energy use, particularly designed for Qatar climate conditions.  For this outstanding commitment to advance utilisation of nature resources, we proudly presented a special Tadmur Holding award to Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute, HBKU, Qatar Foundation for their Self-Sustainable District Cooling and Desalination (SSDD) project. We look forward to motivating more institutions to follow these paths of increasing consciousness and local research towards protecting our environment and to promote the future generation’s engagement on sustainable practices.’

The awards were open to government, corporate entities and non-profit organisations and covered a diverse range of categories. Winners were chosen by a panel made up of senior sustainability and green building experts, academics and industry practitioners.
