Residents all over the country went out and showed support to the annual Qatar National Sports Day, celebrated every second Tuesday of February, dedicated to Qatar’s advocacy for a healthier population, actively and happily involved in sports.
The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) joined forces with its national federations to organise multiple activities that spread the fun and excitement of participating in sport amongst people of all ages and abilities. Thousands of people visited the Team Qatar Village in the heart of the Aspire Park, where Qatar’s sporting champions were on hand to provide tips, demonstrations and motivation.
The Qatar National Sports Day festivities kicked off at the Katara Cultural Village on Tuesday with the participation of around 64 organisations from private and the public sector. An array of sports activities in cooperation with the 64 entities, including 11 ministries, 10 sports federations and 24 health and food establishments began at 8 am giving a chance to everyone to try different types of sports.
Qatar Airways and Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communication jointly hosted an enjoyable and exciting celebration of National Sports Day, featuring a variety of athletic and dynamic activities for staff members from both organisations and their families.
The event, which took place at Al-Saad Sports Club, featured activities including football, volleyball, basketball, cricket, table tennis, tug-of-war, aerobics and yoga, as well as a kids’ activity station with football games, slides and sack races. Friendly competitions took place between employees from the various organisations. The event also featured a health-check booth, with specialised consultants available to administer blood pressure and BMI checkups.
Aspire Zone Foundation proved once again why it is the destination of choice for celebrating National Sport Day as huge crowds visited Aspire Zone to take part in a large number of varied activities available at one of Qatar’s busiest and most vibrant celebrations.
VIPs, officials and dignitaries including HH Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Minister of Sport and Culture, HE Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali and HE Hassan Al Thawadi, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy joined senior figures from Aspire Zone Foundation including Eng. Hilal Al Kuwari, President of Aspire Zone Foundation, Mohammad Khalifa Al-Suwaidi, CEO of Aspire Zone Foundation and Abdullah Nasser Al Naemi, Director General of Aspire Logistics to take part in the day. They were also joined by Khalid Ali Al Mawlawi, Chief Administrative Officer at Aspetar, Dr Scott Gillogly, Chief Medical Officer at Aspetar and Badr Al-Hay, Director of Education and Student Affairs at Aspire Academy.
In line with nationwide celebrations of National Sport Day, Qatar Petroleum (QP) organized a range of fun-filled activities in Dukhan, which attracted the participation of a large number of employees and their families.
The NSD events ware an opportunity for QP employees and their families to come together and enjoy a day of sports and other exciting activities while reaping many health benefits in the process. The national holiday also effectively served as a reminder for everyone of the importance of an active lifestyle in order to stay fit and healthy.

United Development Company (UDC), one of the leading Qatari shareholding companies and master developer of The Pearl- Qatar, hosted an array of sporting activities on the island during National Sport Day in collaboration with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and the fitness centres located at The Pearl-Qatar.
The events were attended by Ibrahim Jassim Al Othman, President and CEO of UDC, HE Dr Eng. Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi, President of the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’, Eng. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attyiah, Assistant President of the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’, along with managers and department heads from both organizations. The extravaganza included a football match between the management of UDC and Ashghal, in addition to beach volleyball, table tennis and other children activities.
Qatar Minister of Development Planning and Statistics HE Dr Saleh bin Mohammed Al-Nabit and Qatar University (QU) President Dr Hassan Al Derham, staff, faculty, students and their families joined celebrants across Qatar yesterday in observing the annual National Sports Day. Through its Sports and Recreation Section in the Student Activities Department, QU conducted a series of sporting and fitness events on its campus and at Katara.
The activities headlined “#sports_unite_us” aimed to promote sports and healthy lifestyles throughout the community. They were organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, Community College of Qatar (CCQ), Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), and Katara, the official host.

Souq Waqif Boutique Hotels by Tivoli, the five-star designer collection of boutique hotels, in celebration of Qatar National Sport Day and as part of their CSR programme, held a series of activities for its employees and the local community focusing on the importance of having an active and healthy lifestyle.
As AURA Entertainment Services organised several activities to mark the Qatar National Sport Day in its three different parks, Baladna Park, KidzMondo Doha and Megapolis. AURA Entertainment Services expressed about the importance of sport to the nation and its people, expressing their full support for the national holiday.
Each park has organised a variety of activities including wall climbing and rope swing in Baladna Park and bowling and Formula One racing challenge at Megapolis, fun run and Zumba classes in KiddzMondo Doha. The activities continued until the evening and were attended by a large number of citizens and residents of all ages.
In line with its efforts to support the spirit of Qatar’s National Sports Day, Alfardan Group held its 7th annual company-wide Sports Day event yesterday (February 13, 2018) at Aspire Ladies Sports Hall. More than 1,500 employees from various business units participated in the event, reflecting the Group’s support for the country’s strategic efforts in positioning itself as one of the world’s premier sporting hubs. The initiative also underscores its support for the wise leadership of H.H the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in promoting sports and fitness and adopting healthy lifestyles among citizens and residents of Qatar. In addition, the 2018 edition of Alfardan Sports Day highlighted the importance of camaraderie, cooperation and team spirit for continued personal and professional growth.
Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), participated in QF’s National Sport Day activities this morning at Education City.
HH Sheikha Moza was joined by a number of high profile officials, including H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee; HE Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry; H.E. Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Minister of State; and Alistair Routledge, President of ExxonMobil Qatar, as well as thousands of visitors.
QF’s National Sport Day program kicked off with a 2km Walkathon around Education City, followed by a 40km Cycle and a 50km Ultra Marathon, which started out from the Ceremonial Court. Additionally, visitors to AL SHAQAB enjoyed a day of high-energy pursuits, under the title ‘The Challenge’, where participants competed in a series of challenging physical activities that tested skills such as strength, strategy, balance, concentration, and competition.
Vodafone encouraged thousands of people to get fit for the future by participating in the various community activities that marked Qatar National Sports Day.

These activities were designed to showcase how technology can also enable an active lifestyle and promote wellbeing. Additionally, there were fun activities for the family such as paddling around a race track and a kids rock climbing challenge.
