Qatar Participates in 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games This Week
The Qatari national indoor football team and the Qatari video games team is participating in the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which is taking place in Incheon, South Korea from Saturday 29 June to Saturday 6 July 2013.
At least 97 players from 13 countries will compete in this year’s competition. All 45 member countries of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Lebanon, Oman and Jordan, were invited to compete at these games. However, only 43 OCA countries are taking part in this year’s competition.
Qatar’s indoor team will face Afghanistan in its first game. The latter has already played one match and lost 2-10 to Uzbekistan. There are eight groups in the competition, the top team of each group qualifies to the next stage. Qatar plays in Group G.
As for the video game team, Qatar has two players who will compete in the Fifa 13 tournament and a Need for Speed tournament. Qatar won bronze in the second edition of the games.
The 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games was initially slated for Qatar, after the country cancelled the last edition of Asian Indoor Games in 2011. However, Incheon was chosen as a replacement instead by the OCA.This event will also act as a test event and a prelude to the 2014 Asian Games.
