The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), through its ‘Screen for Life’ programme, is urging the people of Qatar to undergo screening for breast and bowel cancer ahead of World Cancer Day on 4 February.
‘Screen for Life’, conducted under Qatar’s National Cancer Program and in accordance with the country’s National Health Strategy 2011-2016, has had a successful first year of operations reaching thousands of Qatar residents and raising awareness of the importance of early screening.
But with global cancer rates on the rise, ‘Screen for Life’ is working hard to make people more aware of how screening can help in the early detection of cancer.
Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Cancer Program Manager at PHCC, said:
On the occasion of World Cancer Day we would like to remind the people of Qatar of the importance of the breast and bowel cancer screening. ‘Screen for Life’ enjoyed a successful first year of operations, screening thousands of people in Qatar and spreading the word. The opening of our three dedicated screening centres and mobile screening unit are there for the benefit of the people.’
Early detection of cancer through screening helps to save lives, women aged 45–69 for breast cancer; men and women aged 50–74 for bowel cancer, are urged to get screened.
The three PHCC screening facilities can be found in Rawdat Al Khail Health Center, the Leabaib Health Center and Al Wakra Health Center, while the Mobile Screening Unit is accessible to a multitude of communities across the country offering mammogram services to eligible ladies.
