VCUQatar’s BFA + MFA Exhibition is an excellent way to discover the outstanding works of a new generation of art and design talent in Qatar.

Qatari weddings, eradicating whitewashed beauty standards, and Paralympic training and recreational facilities are just a few of the fascinating and involving exhibitions at the 2017 VCUQatar BFA + MFA Exhibition, which opened to considerable acclaim on 29 April at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQatar). The exhibition, which is open until 20 May, highlights the impressive efforts of VCUQatar’s graduating students from the BFA and MFA degree programmes.  The works on display cover the graphic, interior, fashion design, and painting and printmaking disciplines.

There was a large attendance on the opening day, with friends, families, and many others turning up for the event. The yearly exhibition is considered to be an excellent way to discover the outstanding works of a new generation of art and design talent in Qatar.

Also on show are several dresses by the graduates of the fashion design programme, and those designs sit opposite those of the other BFA graduates in Room 390, while the works of the MFA graduates are at VCUQatar’s Gallery, with works by the Painting & Printmaking seniors on display nearby at the Saffron Hall.

Peter Martin, Interim Chair of Graphic Design at VCUQatar, said:

Our seniors have engaged themselves with art and design’s on-going negotiation of new boundaries enabled by expanding technological capacities and cross-disciplinary research. They have developed projects that investigate potential relevance and value within individual experiences and localities in the face of global currents.’

Entry to the exhibition is free and open to the public and will run until 20 May. The hours are 9 am to 5 pm, Saturday to Thursday. The exhibition is closed on Fridays.
