Museum of Islamic Art
To mark the Holy month of Ramadan, the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) has kicked off its annual Ramadan programme, which offers community members a chance to take part in art workshops and events, in addition to family activities from 8 to 18 May.
Art Workshops (12 to 14 May)
Community members can join a Calligraphy course in Nasta’liq starting from 13 May, from 10 am – 12 pm.
For members looking for evening classes after Iftar, a three-day Clay Art workshop for adults will be held from 12 to 14 May, 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. On 13 – 14 May, another workshop will also be delivered by Qatari photographer Abdulla Al Mannai. This workshop will focus on the importance of light in portrait and landscape photography.

The Holy Quran in Many Languages Exhibition at the MIA Library
MIA Library is pleased to host a new exhibition dedicated to the Holy Quran, titled ‘The Holy Quran in Many Languages’. The exhibition features various displays of historic and contemporary copies of Surat al-Baqarah, Verse 183-187 from the Quran in different languages. The exhibition is until 31 July.
MIA is also working with the International Artists of Doha (IAD), a non-profit group of artists residing in Doha. One artist will attend each evening and create pieces of art in the atrium under the theme ‘Light in Ramadan’. Visitors are invited to come and observe the process and engage with the artists to find out about their inspiration and style.
In addition, MIA is also organising evenings of engaging drop-in family activities, including a Ramadan Treasure Trail, Card and Bookmark making, Cut Out Ka’ba, Prayer mat paper weaving and lantern making. All activities are scheduled from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm on 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 May.
Evening Ramadan-themed tours will be available for MIA visitors every Monday and Thursday at 9:30 pm. General tours of the Permanent Galleries will be offered on Saturdays and Tuesdays at the same time.

Qatar National Library
Visitors to Qatar National Library (QNL) will be able to engage in activities which highlight faith to mark the holy month. The full schedule of events will provide opportunities for the community to prepare for Ramadan.
Holy Kaaba Exhibition (1 May to 1 October)
Featuring over 50 carefully curated items from the QNL Heritage Library Collection, including photos, artworks, books and manuscripts, offering insights into the history of the Holy Kaaba, the stages of its construction, its architectural features and adornment, and its religious and spiritual significance.
Workshops and Lectures
QNL will also offer a variety of workshops to help the community prepare for Ramadan. On 2 May, the Library will hold a workshop to provide practical tips on how to organise one’s time during this month. With the theme, ‘Ramadan is here’, families will have the chance to attend an informal gathering at the Library on 4 May to share their customs and traditions in preparing their homes for this special time of the year.
Emphasising the importance of reading and studying Quran during Ramadan, a lecture and visual presentation, ‘Writing the Quran Through the Centuries’, will be held on 4 May to explore the history of the written Qur’an from the time of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) up to the print and digital eras. Dr Ahmed Khalid Shokri, Professor of Quranic Studies at Qatar University and Mahmoud Zaki, Information Services Librarian at the Library, will lead the lecture.
A variety of handcraft workshops throughout the month will focus on using and exploring creativity to express faith and the joy of celebrating Ramadan with the family. Visit qnl.qa/en/events for more details about these events.
Garangao Celebration (18 May)
QNL will join the community in marking the midpoint of Ramadan with a Garangao celebration. Members of the community are invited to come to QNL in traditional Qatari dresses and celebrate with Garangao songs and cultural arts and crafts. Artist Samar Saeed will offer a special ‘Garangao Box Activity‘ to show participants how to design and create a Garangao box.
The Ramadan Market, organised by QSports in collaboration with United Expo and B2C, will provide an entertaining shopping experience for residents and a solid platform for local and international traders and visitors at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC).
Dubbed as one of the biggest shopping, food and entertainment destinations during the 2019 Ramadan season, the Market is the ideal venue for a leisurely shopping and entertainment experience for the whole family with local food vendors open from Iftar time until closing. Get more information here.
Ramadan Events at Mirqab Mall
There are special in-mall events every weekend at Mirqab Mall throughout the holy month, including Garangao, creation stations, craft workshops and traditional storytelling. Their traditional majlis is offering free coffee and dates at iftar daily. A henna artist is also available on the mezzanine floor. All events are from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm, free of charge. Ramadan Sports Festival
The 12-day festival features 12 activities that range from sports competitions to physical challenges. These sports events are aimed for the active leisure seekers – men, women and juniors. Ramadan Weekend at Tawar Mall
Tawar Mall is holding a series of educational and engaging activities every weekend throughout the holy month of Ramadan.

Angry Birds World™ – Doha Festival City
The Angry Birds World™ Indoor will welcome guests this Ramadan from 6 to 18 May, 10 am to 3 pm and 7 pm to 1 am. From 19 May to 4 June, opening hours will change to 10 am until 2 pm.
