One of horse-racing’s most prestigious events was celebrated by a gala dinner attended by 350 VIP guests in Paris on the night of Friday 4 October 2013.
The dinner was held for the first time to mark the occasion of the highly anticipated event, which includes the Qatar Prix de L’Arc Triomphe and Qatar Arabian World Cup, and which will be held at Longchamp Racetrack in Paris, France on Sunday 6 October 2013.
Among the attendees were executives from Qatar Petroleum International (the official sponsors of the QAWC), Nasser Al Jaidah, CEO of QPI, Mohamed Hitmi Al Hitmi, Executive Director of Downstream, Abdulaziz Jassim Al Kuwari, Chief Financial Officer, Hassen Mohammed Al Hajri, General Secretary of the Board of Directors and Legal Counsel. In addition to several other notable dignitaries, including Rashid Al-Marri, General Manager of South Hook Gas and Yasser Al Jaidah, General Manager of South Hook LNG, as well as other sponsors’ representatives and members of the Qatari and French media.
CEO of QPI, Nasser Al Jaidah, said:
We are greatly honoured by the opportunity to associate with such a magnificent sporting event. It is a natural fit for us to want to lend our name and support to this most prestigious of events in the horse-racing calendar, and especially one that has such a long and illustrious history of showcasing the finest purebreds in the world – not to mention Qatar’s top Arabians. It is very important to us to maintain this part of our culture and heritage, far into the future.’
‘We see in this association an excellent opportunity to not only display the finest examples of Arabian purebred horses, but also to put Qatar’s best foot forward. QPI is increasingly becoming a major player on the world’s energy stage and the QAWC offers an excellent platform for us to be among the global industry leaders in a setting which promotes a dedication to excellence, above all. This goal is something that QPI as a company closely relates to and continues to pursue.’
The Qatar Arabian World Cup (QAWC), sponsored for the first time by Qatar Petroleum International (QPI), is the world’s richest and most prestigious horse race, and only purebred Arabian racehorses may take part. The event was established in 2008 and has increased its prize fund every year from €450,000 to now almost €1 million.
QPI announced the sponsorship of the QAWC at a press conference on 18 September 2013. QPI was established in 2006 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qatar Petroleum (QP), the state-owned national oil company in Qatar. QPI was established to promote and advance the interest of the State of Qatar in the global energy arena of upstream, downstream, and gas and power.
