The 5th edition of the #BigBMeetUp is celebrating the ‘Artists of Qatar’, featuring local and expatriate artists. The meet up event will be held at the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum this Saturday, 11 January and will be followed by the launch of a six-week art exhibition by various Qatar-based artists at the museum’s contemporary art space, The White Majlis.
The event will have a panel discussion moderated by multi-disciplinary artist Othman Kunji with local artists Bouthayna Al Muftah, Mohamed Farj Al Suwaidi and Noor Abuissa. There will also be a talk by world-renowned Arab artist Ahmed Al Bahrani, followed by acclaimed Qatari artist Mariam Al Mulla.
Kees Wieringa, Director of Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum said they are honoured to be part of the initiative that is also in keeping with their vision of creating a community for artists.
Founder of bigbmeeetup Bosco Menezes added that when he founded the initiative in 2018, one of its pillars was to bring people of different cultures together.
Little did I know I would be bringing renowned artists together from different cultures. This is a first for me and I am honoured to collaborate with the Sheikh Faisal Museum team on this.’
He said that the White Majlis is the perfect setting for the 5th edition meeting especially as it is themed to celebrate the artists of Qatar.
I am excited about this event as it brings together artists from over ten countries. A lot of their current artwork is inspired by Qatar.’
BigBMeetup is a community initiative founded by Bosco Menezes. The aim of the initiative is to inspire, inform, educate and spread good news performed by people in their everyday lives.
