To mark and celebrate World Book Day, ACS International School Doha has announced a Comic Book Challenge for its third, fourth and fifth Grade students – with prizes awarded through a collaboration with ALIF Stores, home to Qatar’s largest range of books, electronics and stationery.

Using the Book Creator app on their school iPads, the 8-11 year-old students have been invited to create and submit an adventure story set in Qatar – illustrated in comic-book style and including at least three well-known Qatari landmarks or locations.

An expert judging panel will select a winner in each year-group, who will be able to choose their prizes from ALIF’s wide range of products. Working together, ALIF Stores and ACS Doha hope to inspire young people – helping them become tomorrow’s thought-leaders and innovators by providing space to explore, create and discover.

Jonathan Rawlinson, Lower School Principal at ACS Doha, expressed how this initiative fits into the school’s approach to learning:

At ACS Doha, we focus on developing global thinkers and doers – not just through our rigourous academic programmes. This means that our extra-curricular activities and experiences are an essential part of our students’ well-rounded education, which gets them ready for whatever the future may bring. This competition is a great opportunity for them to get creative and develop their storytelling skills.’

For ALIF Stores, Mohamad Tarraf, Marketing Manager said:

It’s always good to keep children intellectually inspired and creatively active – not least during Ramadan. By partnering with ACS Doha on the Comic Book Challenge, we’re helping introduce students to the world of art and providing a platform for them to share their stories with a wider public. We’re excited to see where their imagination takes them.’

ACS Doha opened its landmark campus in Al Kheesa last year to accommodate up to 2,500 students. It is the only school in Qatar to offer both the College Board’s Advanced Placement Programme (AP) as well as the International Baccalaureate Career Related Programme (IBCP). It also offers the full range of IB programmes and US High School Diploma, giving its students choice, flexibility and rigour in their studies.

The competition is open for entries from ACS Doha’s third, fourth and fifth Graders until 2 June, 2021. The winners will be announced on 15 June.
