The British Council in collaboration with Katara invite you attend “Vertical Road” by Akram Khan. It will be performed at 8pm from 27th to 28th February 2012 in Katara Drama Theatre.For the first time, the famous choreographer Akram Khan has come to Qatar with his latest contemporary ensemble work. Khan has assembled a cast of performers from Asia and a specially commissioned score by long-term collaborator composer, Nitin Sawhney.
Vertical Road draws inspiration from the Sufi tradition and the Persian poet and Persian philosopher Rumi and explores man’s earthly nature, his rituals and the consequences of human actions.
‘I died from minerality and became vegetable;
And from vegetativeness I died and became animal.
I died from animality and became man.
Then why fear disappearance through death?
Next time I shall die
Bringing forth wings and feathers like angels;
After that, soaring higher than angels –
What you cannot imagine,
I shall be that.’ (Rumi)
The Financial Times called it “An evening of rare intelligence and artistry.”
Tickets are available from Virgin Megastore.
