Alex Cudin and Mashel Al Naimi to Fight for Qatar Superbike Championship Title this Weekend
The last round of the Qatar Superbike Championship (QSBK) for the season will take place this weekend on 8 and 9 May 2015 at Losail International Circuit with a tough battle between racers, Alex Cudlin and Mashel Al Naimi.
The Aussie QMMF rider Cudlin has an advantage of 21 points ahead of the Qatari rider Al Naimi, but with 50 points left, everything can happen.
Cudlin has been on the podium in all round except in the third round where he lost a lot of points due to mechanical problems and he hopes to end the season with a victory and the championship. He said:
I’m really looking forward to this weekends two races. I feel really motivated and ready. We have been clawing back points all season on Mashel and the enter the final round ahead on points is positive. I’ve said at the start that I want to win my 5th straight championship, so I hope on Saturday that comes true. I will of course try and win both races this weekend, but the most important is to try and win the championship.’
Al Naimi has been leading the championship since the fifth round, but in in the last round he couldn’t he had problems with his Honda bike and didn’t start in the second race. He said:
I am very excited for this weekend and ready for a nice battle with Alex. I know it will be difficult to win the championship but I will try my best to win both races and wait to see what Alex can do, but for sure it will be an exciting weekend.’
The second battle of the weekend will be for the third place in the championship. Anthony West is third in the standings with 150 points but he will not take part in the race this weekend. The fight for the third place will be between Nasser Al Malki, Saeed Al Sulaiti and Nina Prinz, as there are only four points gap between all of them.
In the Supersport category, the championship will be also decided this weekend as the Qatari rider Jassim Al Thani is leading his category with 207 points and Mahmoud Tannir from Lebanon is second with 190 points.
On Friday 8 May 2015, the track activity will start at 5 pm with the free practice 1, followed by the free practice 2 at 7:15 pm. The Qualifying session is scheduled at 9:15 pm and the Superpole will be at 10:15. Races will be on Saturday 9 May 2015, with the first race of the round at 7:35 pm and the second race at 10:20 pm.
