Born in Gaza 10 September 1989, Mohammed Assaf is a Palestinian singer well known for being the winner of the second season of Arab Idol, broadcast by the MBC network. Named Asaroukh or The Rocket by Lebanese singer and Arab Idol judge Ragheb Alama, Assaf was named a goodwill ambassador for peace by The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in 2013. He was also named the ambassador of culture and arts by the Palestinian government and was offered a position with ‘diplomatic standing’ by the Palestinian president Mahmood Abbas.
Salma Rashid is a Moroccan singer and a contestant in the second season of Arab Idol. Although she didn’t make it as the winner of Arab Idol or even in the final three contestants of Arab Idol, she’s become a popular singer, singing songs by the Arab’s world most respected singers such as Om Kalthoom and Fairouz. The 18-year-old contestant was saved by Ragheb Alama in the final elimination episode.
