Asean Cultural WeekThe Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) – Committee in Doha (ACD) is planning to host an Asean Cultural Week at Katara Cultural Village in November 2014.

The week will feature cultural events, performances, folklore as well as exhibition of handicraft products from the seven Asean resident embassies in Doha — Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Asean was founded in 1967 with the aim of promoting economic growth in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the announcement of Asean Cultural Week was made during a visit of an ACD delegation to Katara. The meeting took place when Katara General Manager, Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, along with Katara Director of Marketing and International Affairs, Darwish Ahmad, received Brunei Darussalam Ambassador and ACD Chairman, Nordin Ahmad, and Indonesian Ambassador, Didi Saif Al Hadi.

Since its establishment in 2011, ACD has organised activities to promote camaraderie among the resident Asean Missions in Doha and showcase Asean culture, arts and lifestyle to the Qatari and the international community. In 2012, ACD had hosted a gala dinner at Katara, featuring a fashion show of traditional costumes of seven Asean countries as well as Asean cuisine and traditional dance and musical performances.
