The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced that traffic diversions will be in place on the entrances and exits leading to the service road west of Al Shamal road in the Umm Slal Ali area from 9 January 2015 until Q3, 2015.
The entrance and exit to the service road leading to Al Sakhama Interchange will be closed. In addition, a stretch of service road connecting Al Sakhama and Umm al Amad interchanges will also be closed.
Traffic will be diverted to secondary roads that will allow vehicles access to the service and local roads. These diversions will direct vehicles traveling from Umm al Amad interchange on the Al Shamal Road and heading toward the service and local roads of the Umm al Amad and Umm Ubayriya west of Al Shamal Road, to take a temporary exit and road which has been constructed off the right lane of Al Shamal Road. Commuters may also use an additional exit off Al Shamal Road after the Al Sakhama interchange to access local roads to the west. Vehicles traveling on the service and local roads of Umm al Amad and Umm Ubayriya toward Al Shamal Road and in the direction of Al Mazrooa interchange south must take the local road and exit connected to the right lane of Al Shamal Road at the Al Mazrooa interchange.
According to Ashghal, the diversions will have no effect on normal traffic flow of the main Al Shamal highway and all lanes will remain open in both directions. This diversion aims to facilitate the design and construction of a new two-lane service road as part of the project undertaken by Ashghal to improve Al Shamal Road.
Ashghal will place directional and advisory signage across the entire project site and its diversions. The authority requests that all road users abide by the speed limits in place along the diversions and asks drivers to observe all traffic signs and instructions to ensure their safety and the safety of other road users.
