Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), in collaboration with the Qatar Paralympic Committee, successfully organised the fifth consecutive Table Tennis competition for people with special needs. Organised as part of AZF’s Ramadan Sports Festival (RSF), the event provided an opportunity for all community members to take part in sporting activities during Ramadan.

Over 36 participants competed in the one-day event which was divided into three categories: visual impairment, physical impairment (sitting/standing) and hearing impairment. AZF organised table tennis competitions for the visually-impaired for the second time this year in the RSF.

Participant Ikrami Fouad secured the top spot under the visually-impaired category after showcasing a commendable performance, followed by Abdulrahman Sami in second place and Ali Metaab in third place. Khalid Al Yafei won first place in the physical impairment category (sitting), followed by participant Ismail Mohammed in second place, and Abdullah Al Ishaq in third. Participant Mostafa Ameen won first place in the physical impairment category (standing), followed by Mohammed Musa in second and Faisal Al Baridi in third. In the hearing-impaired category, participant Saeed Saleh won the top spot, while participant Ibrahim Mesad came in second and Mohammed Shehab came in third.

Commenting on this year’s event, AZF Director of Venues and Events Mohammed Mubarak Al Kuwari said they were proud to provide the logistical support for this great tournament.

Hussain Haddad, a member of the Qatar Paralympic Committee and Director of the Table Tennis Tournament added that AZF is keen to engage everyone in sport and the table tennis competition was carefully selected because it is fun for everyone.

We organised another successful and enjoyable competition for the visually impaired, two years in a row. We hope to continue this fruitful partnership with AZF and we look forward to future events.’

The RSF’s football tournament is also kicking off on Aspire Zone’s warm-up track, with 16 teams taking part. The Men and Ladies Volleyball tournaments, will be held in the Volleyball Hall in Aspire Dome and the Ladies Sports Hall in the Ladies Club respectively.

The RSF is an annual sporting event that runs for two weeks during the holy month of Ramadan. Over 1,300 members from the local community are set to participate in 11 sports tournaments across Aspire Zone’s world-class sporting facilities. This year’s festival is sponsored by Ooredoo and Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana Co.

The festival is an excellent example of the year-round programme of activities hosted by AZF, designed to cater to all members of the community. Aspire Zone has become one of the most popular destinations for Qatar’s residents to take part in sporting activity as well as enjoy a wide range of cultural activities.
