Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) is all set for a new season of events, as sports enthusiasts across Doha get ready to attend a number of international sporting competitions and participate in community activities.
Members of the public will be offered an opportunity to come together again and share in the spirit of friendly competition by attending the GCC Judo Championships and the FINA World Cup Short Course Swimming. Organised by Aspire Logistics, the new season also marks the return of several highly-anticipated and family-friendly events, including the ‘Aquathon’ and ‘Khalifa Stadium Run Around’, which have been designed to encourage a healthy sporting culture and improve the quality of life for all.
The Aquathon, which takes place every year at Aspire Zone, consists of five races spread across several months. Each race includes a swim in Aspire Dome and a run around Aspire Park. Entry is open to both men and women and, with categories available for juniors (8 – 15), adults (16 – 39) and veterans (40 and above), the event features courses of varying distances. The first race will take place on Saturday 2 November 2013.
Meanwhile, the Khalifa Stadium Run Around will commence later this month, and provides participants with the opportunity to exercise in an iconic arena that has been graced by some of the world’s most revered athletes. The Run Around is set to take place on Thursday 24 October 2013 and is open to men and women aged 16 and over.
Aspire Zone is keen to encourage the entire community to attend and participate in this season’s action-packed events. Spectators and family members are welcome to attend several international competitions, including the 17th GCC Judo Championships which will take place on 11 to 12 October 2013 in the Ladies Sports Hall, and the FINA World Cup Short Course Swimming, which will be held at the Hamad Aquatic Center from 20 to 21 October 2013. Kids (14 and below) are also invited to participate in the Qatar Gas Chess Festival happening on the 24 to 26 October 2013 in the Ladies Sports Hall; registration will take place on the 24th prior to the start of the event.
