Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) collaborated with Qatar Paralympic Committee to organise Paralympic Day 2019 under the slogan of ‘World Day for Special Needs’ at Aspire Dome on 4 December, providing various sports activities for the audiovisual, deaf and physical disabilities groups.

AZF and Qatar Paralympic Committee hosted Paralympic Day 2019 to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD) to support and promote the sports culture among all segments of society without exception. The annual observance of the IDPWD on 3 December was proclaimed in 1992 by United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

The event was attended by Abdulla Aman Al Khater, Director of Events and Venues from AZF and Ameer Al Mulla, Executive Director, Qatar Paralympic Committee, and Jaber Al Hajri, Head of Public Relations from QTerminals, and along with a number of prominent figures and officials.

According to Al Khater, Aspire Zone Foundation aims to promote an active and healthy lifestyle and bring the community together. He said that the Para Athletes play an important role in their sports-focused initiatives.

We would like to thank everyone who helped and contributed in making this day a huge success, in particular, Qatar Paralympic Committee and Terminals’.

During the event, the Aspire Academy students’ team participated in multiple activities, such as Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball, Goalball, and Athletics for children with intellectual disabilities, and an entertainment side for extreme disabilities such as Bucha competitions.

Al Mulla expressed his deep thanks to the strategic partner AZF for adopting a sports festival for students and institutions of the disabled in Qatar.

This event is the first of its kind in AZF to support and promote the sports culture among all segments of society without exception. Also, Aspire is the only foundation in the country that devotes a full-day activity each year during Ramadan Sports Festival for Table Tennis Competitions for the people with disabilities.

Worth to mention that Paralympic Day 2019 in AZF is sponsored by QTerminals.
