With some of the restrictions being relaxed, we can once again think about eating out. And as everyone knows, breakfast is the most important meal of the day (along with brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner).
If you too are a Hobbit, it’s highly likely that you want something fairly substantial for your first meal, in readiness for second breakfast and other sumptuous repasts.
That in mind, one Friday morning we left The Shire for the InterContinental Doha The City to partake of their new offering Breakfast in the Garden. This was our first visit to Al Jalsa Garden Lounge, a stunning secret oasis in the hotel. Upon walking in, you are immediately transported back to The Shire, with its beautiful decor and light streaming in through the atrium. When the weather permits, the atrium opens up and must be quite the sight in the evening.
We casually wended our way through the plants and flowers to our table – it was so relaxing, enhanced by gently bubbling water fountains and subtle mood lighting. The waiting staff were really most joyful despite the early hour (for us, anyway!) and who could blame them – the ambience is enough to make even Sauron smile.
For those who simply can’t decide what to have for breakfast, or actually just want a bit of everything, the restaurant has thankfully come to the rescue with their set menus. On offer are Arabic, Western and Healthy options – we opted for the Western and Healthy, and settled back with our coffee and tea in eager anticipation.
And just like that, the plates started arriving! All three options include sliced fruits, crudités, cereal, and a bakery basket to enjoy while the chef prepares your choice of eggs. There is also a selection of yogurt, parfait or muesli, and our set menu had a wonderful smoked salmon plate (so decadent for breakfast!), cold cuts, a cheese platter, and a quinoa salad. My fellow Hobbit ordered the pancakes, which were apparently ‘divine’, while my chia seeds pudding tasted suspiciously unhealthy, it was that good!
Time was not an issue for us, so we chose to linger over the ‘starters’ while waiting for our eggs. Of course, if you are in a rush or like to ‘eat and go’, that is obviously an option – simply let the staff know. But it wasn’t too long before we were tucking in to perfectly poached and fried eggs, with the welcome additions of hash browns and tomatoes. All washed down with more coffee and a glass of freshly squeezed OJ. Did we mention that the set menu is a mere QAR99?!
We meandered back out the garden feeling significantly more satiated than when we arrived. Second breakfast and lunch were looking highly doubtful!
