The West End Musical by Dana Alfardan and Nadim Naaman is a tribute to Khalil Gibran
Critically-acclaimed Qatari musician, composer, songwriter and symphonic artist Dana Al Fardan, and Cultural Village Foundation – Katara announced this week the Qatar debut of the West End musical, Broken Wings, co-written and composed by Dana and West End’s very own star Nadim Naaman.
Based on Khalil Gibran’s masterpiece, Broken Wings will be on show from 7 to 9 November at the Opera House at Katara Cultural Village, with matinee and soiree performances. Broken Wings was first performed in London in August 2018 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket. The musical was also recently performed in Lebanon in July, in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the prestigious Beiteddine Arts Festival.
Broken Wings sheds the light on Kahlil Gibran as a person and his evolution. Recently, one of the songs from the musical, ‘Selma’, was filmed in the writer’s hometown as a tribute to his literary achievements. According to Nadim Naaman, they worked tirelessly on refining and improving the material.
Our work was well received by the people of Lebanon, we are looking forward to introducing Qatar to our masterpiece.’
Commenting on the show and their collaboration with Katara Cultural Village, Dana Al Fardan said she is excited to bring Broken Wings home. Al Fardan has gained international recognition for her Arab-influenced contemporary music. Being an iconic Qatari musician and businesswoman, she is now the Cultural Ambassador of Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and the Official Composer of Qatar Airways.
Katara Director of Marketing and Cultural Affairs Darwish Ahmad Al Shaibani said they are very proud to partner with Dana Alfardan in bringing Broken Wings to Doha.
The cast of Broken Wings is led Nadim Naaman as Gibran, Hanna Qureshi as Selma, and Soophia Foroughi (Spamalot) as Mother. Other members of the cast will be announced soon. The musical is directed by Bronagh Lagan, with orchestration by Joe Davison, and produced by Ali Matar.
