The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak has caused the cancellation and suspension of big events around the world, including some big events in Qatar.
This is a compilation of official cancellations, suspensions and temporary closures of public events and facilities in Qatar. Please note that this post will be updated regularly.
8th QATAR INTERNATIONAL AGRICULTURAL EXHIBITION (AgriteQ)
AgriteQ 2020 was set to take place from 17 – 21 March 2020 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC). The organisers have yet to release a statement regarding the cancellation. For more information, visit agriteq.com.
Due to recent developments, all scheduled events organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar are postponed until further notice. This precautionary measure is in line with recommendations to limit social interaction. The health and well-being of members is the highest priority and events schedule will resume as soon as possible.
BARBERSHOPS, BEAUTY SALONS, SPA AND MASSAGE PARLOURS
Haircutting salons, beauty spa and massage parlours will be closed starting 17 March, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry until further notice. The suspension includes home service.

BRITISH COUNCIL QATAR
In response to the reported cases of COVID-19 in Qatar, the British Council Al Sadd office is suspending all walk-in customer service until 31 March. However, they will continue to serve through their call centre, website, and social media channels.

The Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2020) is due to be held this 16-18 March at the DECC but has been cancelled. The organising committee said in a statement that although the event is extremely important, the primary concern remains the health and welfare of all residents and visitors to Qatar.
A number of public places, facilities and services within Education City are currently closed to the public until further notice.
- Multaqa (Education City Student Center) including shops and food and beverage facilities within the centre
- Minaretein Building, prayers at the mosque will continue as normal
- Qatar National Library
- All library facilities within Education City are closed to the public
- Oxygen Park
- Education City Tram service is suspended
- All sports and community activities and programmes at Education City, including those in cooperation with external third parties
- Al Shaqab
- QF recreation facilities, including the Recreation Centre and Education City Club House
- Group sessions at Education City Golf Club is not currently available. Individual sessions can be scheduled as normal.

HERMITAGE GREEN CONCERT
IAAF DOHA DIAMOND LEAGUE MEET
The event was scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar 16 and 17 April. In line with the protective measures taken by the State of Qatar to limit the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), the Qatar Athletics Federation announced that it has postponed the meet.
The Doha Diamond League is an annual one-day track and field meeting and part of the Diamond League – the top level international circuit for the sport. It is typically held in May as the first leg of the Diamond League series.
LAURETANA WATER QATAR ROUND
The FIM and Dorna WSBK Organisation announced that the Lauretana Water Qatar Round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship is to be postponed until further notice. Further updates will be published in due course.
MINISTRY OF ENDOWMENTS AND ISLAMIC AFFAIRS
Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs directed the closure of mosques and the suspension of congregations for prayers until the safety of worshippers is assured.
The suspension comes into effect from the mid-day ‘Zuhr’ prayer, 17 March, and include obligatory prayers five times a day and the Friday gathering at mosques. The call to prayer will continue.

MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATION
PROJECT QATAR 2020
Originally set to take place from 7-9 April 2020 at the DECC, the exhibition will now be held in September. Project Qatar attracts the biggest global players in the construction market and provides opportunities to secure deals with decision-makers in the Qatari market.
Qatar Foundation confirmed that classes are suspended at all QF schools, partner universities and at Hamad Bin Khalifa University until further notice. All events for the next six weeks (from 9 March) are also cancelled with immediate effect.
QATAR INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW (QAWARIB 2020)
In response to reported cases of novel coronavirus in Qatar, and as a precautionary measure, all museums and heritage sites under Qatar Museums are closed to visitors until further notice. Additionally, all museum shops, cafés and restaurants and the National Museum of Qatar playground will be closed.
The closure includes the following:
- National Museum of Qatar
- Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art
- Museum of Islamic Art*
- Fire Station
The following initiatives are also cancelled until further notice:
- MIA Bazaar and NMOQ Baraha Bazaar
- School visits
- Workshops, lectures, tours and educational programming
- Public events
*Please note that the grounds around MIA remain accessible to the public.
QATAR NATIONAL LIBRARY
QATAR OLYMPIC COMMITTEE
In line with the protective measures taken by the State of Qatar to limit the spread of COVID-19, these events (please click on the image) have been cancelled and postponed.
According to a statement from Doha Film Institute (DFI) posted on social media, Qumra 2020 and all related activities was cancelled due to current global concern regarding COVID-19. Qumra 2020 was scheduled to be held from 20-25 March.
Qumra is an initiative that seeks to provide mentorship, nurturing, and hands-on development for filmmakers from Qatar and around the world.
SUPREME JUDICIAL COUNCIL
The Supreme Judicial Council has announced the suspension of all court hearings from 15 March, for a period of two weeks. This action comes within the framework of the preventive efforts and measures taken by the State of Qatar to curb the spread of COVID-19.
