The Qatar National Library is organising several community activities this December to celebrate Qatar National Day. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in discussions and activities related to the country’s environment, art, history, food and architecture.

Qatari Youths’ Response to Environmental Issues (2 Dec) This panel discussion will shed light on two youth initiatives on environmental sustainability, analysing Qatar’s current environmental sustainability and expectations for the future.

Beach Clean up with the Doha Environmental Actions Project (4 Dec) Supported by SDGeneration, Greener Future and THIMUN Qatar. Registrations are open until 2 December.

Qatar National Day Wikithon (5 Dec) Member of the community will be taught how to edit, improve and enrich the contents of Wikipedia. The Wikithon this year will focus on editing and enriching Arabic and English pages on Qatari-themed topics, including history, nature, among others.

Hazawi from Qatar (6, 8 and 13 Dec) A series of virtual storytelling evenings featuring a traditional tale about a sea monster. Children can enjoy these stories from the comfort of their homes.

Shaykh Sultan Duray (7 Dec) This activity will explore the history of Qatar’s 19th-century religious scholars and their role in spreading and teaching religious knowledge in Qatar and the region. The programme will be hosted in English and Arabic.

Dot, Dot, Dot! (7 Dec) A fun session where children will use the dotting technique to create beautiful art. The online event will see children engage with a variety of coloured markers, pencils, white paper and erasers to prepare their art piece.

Film Screening (8 Dec) In cooperation with Msheireb Museums, the event features a short film about Msheireb houses built by hands – stories about Mohammed Bin Jassim House, Bin Jelmood House, Company House and Radwani House.

Traditional Qatari Dishes with Qatari Chef Hissa Al Sulaiti (8 Dec) Chef Hissa Al Sulaiti will talk about the local cuisine and how one can prepare a special dish. The event will highlight traditional Qatari dishes that are still present in our time, despite the emergence of modern foods.  

Conversation with Captain Jassim Al Jaber (9 Dec) Join this session to learn about the goals and requirements of national service and the guidelines for Qatari citizens to be part of the national service.

Qatar National Day Podcast (9 Dec) The Library is launching its first podcast featuring HE Sheikh Mohamed AJ Al-Thani, author of the book Jassim, the Leader: Founder of Qatar,  who will talk about his experience in writing this important biography.

Contemporary Architecture and Urbanism in Qatar (12 Dec) Professor Ali A Alraouf will provide critical analysis of Doha’s urban mega-projects and iconic architectural landmarks, in addition to local and traditional architecture and urbanism.

Qatar Art Exhibition for Young Adults (18 Dec) Talented young artists will be invited to showcase their appreciation for Qatari culture through painting and other art forms. This two-hour session will give participants the opportunity to work alongside members of Qatar’s arts community.
