Songkran is a traditional festival celebration in Thailand to mark the new Buddhist/Hindu calendar. The Thai people celebrate the occasion through family reunions, temple visits and house cleaning. Splashing water at each other is one of the signature traditions during Songkran which is believed to wash away misfortunes. Another important ritual is washing the Buddha image with fragrant water.
