Centara West Bay Hotel and Residences Doha, in collaboration with Doha Environmental Actions Project (DEAP), Ministry of Municipality and Environment (Al Baladiya) and Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), organised a beach clean-up this Monday, 25 October at Fuwairit beach for Qatar Sustainability Week (23-30 October).

Beach clean ups ensure that no rubbish reaches the water that could harm marine life. Keeping Qatar’s beaches clean works for both the preservation of the marine environment and for the benefit of people visiting, keeping clean the country’s many stunning beaches

Centara West Bay General Manager Sean Spinks said that an ongoing initiative is to raise awareness on the importance of protecting the environment and restoring the natural environment as a part of the hotel’s sustainability plan.

We would like to encourage beach-goers to clean up after themselves and take responsibility for picking up any rubbish left behind. At Centara, we integrate sustainability into our operations, promote responsible recreational activities and actively support local (initiatives).

Supporting the sustainability effort of Centara Hotels and Resorts, Spinks said their commitment is rooted deep in Thai tradition, and they acknowledge and appreciate the strength of the community. He said that the responsible ‘treatment’ of the environment has a positive impact on businesses and consequently on the prosperity and security of destinations where they operate.
