A new Qatari higher education institution offering Business programmes was officially launched this week, during a special ceremony to celebrate its opening.

The launch was attended by key figures from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), and by members of the diplomatic community.

The new college breaks new ground with a learner-centric and practical approach to vocational higher education, offering internationally accredited Business programmes. The college admitted its first batch of students in September 2018, and runs three intakes a year (September, January and April).

In his welcome speech, City College Director of Education Nicholas Evans highlighted their aim to foster national sustainability and to contribute directly to the country’s growth, with their courses meeting the needs of the service sector of the country. He said that their courses are academically rigorous and rooted firmly in employability and business competency.

Through its part-time and evening programmes, the City College also provides opportunities for employees who wish to pursue their studies while working. It also has close links with major companies in Qatar and offers tailor-made, internationally-accredited education programmes for all industries and sectors, both government and private.

Through its partnership with the University of Portsmouth, City College also offers preferential entry for students to pursue their Honours degree in the United Kingdom. Their students also have the choice to join over 339 other universities worldwide. It will have its own degrees soon.

Dr Khalid Al Ali, Assistant Undersecretary for Education and Director of the Higher Education Institutes, said that the launch marks a milestone for the City College, adding to the quality and diversity of higher education in Qatar.
