According to their website, ‘The Crowne Plaza Doha – The Business Park is the ideal hotel for productive business and enjoyable leisure time’. Is this true? Is this what we wanted for a Thursday night staycation? We were about to find out.
The hotel is located on the bustling Airport Street, just 15 minutes away from the award-winning Hamad International Airport, making it an excellent choice for visitors looking for an easier commute. The hotel itself is part of a mini financial district, a good option for conferences and meetings while still offering all the conveniences of a luxury five-star hotel.
However, our only order of business for the night was to check in. There was no kerfuffle at reception – we gave our names, we were checked in and that was it! The formalities were completed in mere minutes.
Our bolthole for the night was a deluxe king bed guest room on the fifth floor looking out on to the gleaming buildings that make up the Business Park complex. It was spacious and well appointed with a sleek modern and clean décor. There were all the usual mod cons – a tea and coffee making station, a work desk and a copy of Marhaba Information Guide – to guarantee a hassle-free stay.
A quick freshen-up in the spotless (and bright!) bathroom meant that we were ready for dinner, and so taking our leave, we padded along the seriously spongy carpet and headed back downstairs.
Dinner this evening was at Aramede restaurant, situated on the ground floor. Huge and airy with a multitude of seating options, the food is laid out around a large circular central ‘island’ where should this be your thing, you can see what the chefs are up to. Thursday night has a seafood theme, with enticing displays of all manner of fresh fish and crustaceans to tempt you.
The starters and salads on offer were tasty and fresh, with new findings such as a nutty Thai vegetable salad and mixed corn and beans sitting alongside favourites like hummus and tabbouleh. My Fishy friend lived up to his name and had a platter full of treats, including calamari, steamed dumplings and fried mussels.
Next, we took advantage of the fresh fish on offer, which lured diners with sea bass, lobster, red snapper and much more. We reeled in orders for a salmon steak and sea bream fillets. While waiting in the short time it took to cook, Fishy indulged in a fillet of Nile perch and chicken breast Parmesan-style, while I had delicious Gulf prawns in a herb butter sauce, all served with perfectly roasted baby potatoes and root vegetables. The main event then arrived to great fanfare, with much oohing and aahing as we duly proceeded to demolish the food.
There was also a dazzling array of sweet treats to finish the meal with – make sure you save space!
Our stomachs full, thoughts turned to putting our feet up and retiring early to recover from the working week. We were intrigued to learn more about the much-lauded Sleep Advantage® system (sleeping well is definitely an advantage, I would say!). An Elemis aromatherapy spray is provided on the bedside cabinet so that a restless guest can waft calming fumes of lavender over the bed linen and into the air, ensuring total relaxation. The premium sheets were incredibly soft and the bed was one of the most comfortable ever experienced. In fact, it was so relaxing that we fell asleep within mere minutes of our heads touching the pillows.
If like us, you don’t want to be bothered in the morning – one deserves a lie in on a Friday, after all – simply press the ‘No Housekeeping’ button on the wall next to the door and they will know that you want to catch up on some essential Zs or that you have work to do.
We had definitely caught up on our sleep, and the only work we had in mind was breakfast. So it was that Aramede restaurant once again beckoned. The breakfast buffet is a veritable feast, with everything from super healthy – power shakes, fresh fruits, non-dairy and low-fat milk to go with the cereals – to more traditional items such as scrambled egg, turkey bacon and hash browns. Literally catering for all tastes and nationalities, I also thought it correct to partake in idly and sambar, while my partner embraced his American roots with braised steak.
It is worth noting that all the dishes in the restaurant – both at dinner and at breakfast – are clearly marked with allergy warnings. The service provided by the waiting staff is exemplary, they are most helpful and knowledgeable should you have any questions.
And so it was that our staycation had come to an end. Don’t be put off from thinking that the hotel is just for business travellers. With a number of other good restaurants and bars on site along with hidden treasure Aramede, there is something for all.
After our ‘enjoyable leisure time’ at the Crowne Plaza Doha, we can confirm their statement is correct – it is the ideal hotel!
