In the first race of the Qatar SuperBike Championship (QSBK) at Losail International Circuit on 14 and 15 February 2014, Cudlin who started from the pole position, took the lead from the start of the race and crossed the checkered flag with a gap of 8.054 ahead Mishal Al Naimi.
I am very happy with the race, the result was what we planned. At the beginning, I was able to create a gap on the first three laps and maintain it, so I managed to look behind to see where Mishal, Saeed and Nasser to see where they were and increase the lead to 10 second, and from there, I stayed until the end. For sure in the second race, Nasser and Mishal will be faster.’
The second place was for Mishal Al Naimi with a Honda bike. Al Naimi said:
I am happy with the result as yesterday, I was very slow in the free practices but in the qualifying session I changed the tyres and it was better, but today I found the bike too much hard at the beginning and I tried to follow the other rides but I couldn’t go faster than my normal pace. In the last five laps I felt the bike working better and secure the second place.’
The third place in the podium was for Nasser Al Malki who had some problems with his BMW S1000RR. Al Malki said:
I had various problems with my bike and I almost crashed several times, so I slowed down my rhythm all the race and try to make a smooth race. My bike was not available to fight so I kept my speed and line to finish in the podium. Hope we can fix it for the second race.’
The german rider Nina Prinz had a crash with his Suzuki bike in the turn 10 in the middle of the race but fortunately she managed to join again and ended in 8th position.
Regarding the LARRS category, the winner was the Chinese rider Yuan Jibo who finished in the nine position overall. After the race, the LARRS winner said:
I felt very good in the track and it was a nice race. I would like to thank QMMF for this chance.’
The second place in the LARRS podium was for Yasas Rahamat. The Indonesian rider said:
This is my first race in Qatar and with a R6 bike. The weather was a bit hot to but finally I managed to finish second in my category and I am happy with this result being my first race in Qatar.’
The leader of the LARRS, Manca Katrasnik ended in the third place in her category. The woman rider Manca said:
I am very happy with the race as my time was much better than yesterday, and I didn’t expect such a good result. It was a tough race as all were very close but overall I am happy and the bike worked perfectly.’
Trophies were given by Rashid Al Sulaiti, QMMF Public Relations Manager and Bambang Guinardi. In the second race, Alex Cudlin also took the lead from the start and gave no chance to the other riders to overtake him. The results in the podium were the same as in race 1 with Cudlin in the top and Al Naimi and Al Malki second and third respectively.
In the LARRS, the first place was for the Indonesian rider Yahas Rahmat and second place was for Yuan Jibo from China. Manca Katrasnik ended again third in the podium. QMMF President and LIC General Manager, Nasser Khalifa Al Attiya, said:
First of all I would like to thank all the participants that took part today in our championship and I am very happy to see that the more riders coming from different nationalities. Also, I am pleased to see that more women are participating in the Motorsport events and they performance is in very high level. From Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation we support women and we are delighted to host next week the 1st Women in Motorsport Seminar in Middle East that will take place together with the opening round of the 2014 FIA Middle East Rally Championship, the Qatar International Rally.’
Trophies were given by Sultan Al Morraikhi (QMMF Board Member), Rashid Al Sulaiti, QMMF Public Relations Manager and Ali Dagher, FIM Asia Vice President.
