It’s called the Doha Bus. A product of the Doha Bus Company, a private Qatari company, the Doha Bus is the first double-decker tourist bus in Qatar.
According to Director General of Doha Bus Company, Mohamed Jumaa, the Doha Bus was officially launched in April 2013. However, the bus wasn’t seen around the city until recently in the summer. The first batch of these buses comprises of three vehicles and a total of seven buses were acquired by the end of August.
The bus includes 68 seats in the first deck and 28 seats in the second one. Each bus will have a tourist guide and will run through their own special routes through Doha City, visiting Qatar’s most popular tourist attractions such as Souq Waqif, the Corniche, Katara Cultural Village, The Pearl-Qatar, and even the malls such as Villaggio and City Center-Doha. A digital commentary system will provide you guides in English, Arabic, French, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese and Korean.
According to the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), the number of tourists have increased in Qatar last year. GCC visitors in Qatar grew 13% in 2012 compared to 2011. There were also 10% more visitors from other parts of the world in 2012 than in 2011. Qatar is ranked second in tourism in the region behind the UAE and 41st overall out of 140 countries, the 2013 Travel and Competitiveness Report states.
