Applications are now open for the residency design competition ‘Old Doha Prize’, organised by the British Council and Qatar Museum Authority, on behalf of Qatar UK 2013 Year of Culture. The last day to enrol for the competition is 31 July 2013.
The contest will bring together architects and designers based in Britain and Qatar for a one-week design residency and competition, which will take place in Doha in November 2013.
The focus will be exploring the neighbourhood of Al Asmakh and the backstreet of Umm Wishaw which connects the Old Souq with historic Abdullah bin Al Thani St. Teams will be asked to explore the process of regeneration and potential for incorporating the heritage and history of the area into their designs.
The design residency and competition will offer a chance for UK and Qatar based architects and designers to develop creative thinking and ideas around a brief whilst building networks and knowledge in an international environment.
The ‘Old Doha Prize’ is supported by the Royal Institute for British Architects and UCL Bartlett in the UK, and the Doha Architecture Forum and Makower Architects in Qatar.
