This year’s final match of the Amir Cup between defending champions Al Duhail and QNB Stars League winners Al Sadd is historic as it will be held in the first stadium built from scratch for the FIFA World Cup in 2022. The Amir Cup is also the biggest football competition in the country. It was first played in 1972/73 and contested every season by 17 QNB Stars League and Second Division teams.
In 1999, it decided to include the Second Division sides along with the top tier teams playing for Qatar national league title. In 2004, the tournament began to last for five stages. Winner of this match will be crowned champions of the 47th Amir Cup.
