Emerging onto the art scene in 1957 at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Carlos, Valdés garnered attention for his incisive critique of the Franco regime alongside his peers from Equipo Crónica. His ability to merge socio-political commentary with artistic expression laid the groundwork for a career defined by innovation and introspection.
After the dissolution of Equipo Crónica in 1981, Valdés embarked on a solo journey marked by a deep engagement with art history. Through meticulous reinterpretations of masterpieces by luminaries like Velázquez, Picasso, and Matisse, Valdés infuses his work with a modern sensibility, forging a dialogue between past and present.
