Earthna Workshops: Pathways to Sustainability

10 October - 12 October

The findings and recommendations from these workshop discussions and exchanges will guide Earthna and its stakeholder partners to assess, consolidate and formulate policy papers and insights to help transition Qatar towards a sustainable knowledge-based economy.

Day 1 (10 Oct) Qatar’s Ecology: A Health Assessment with Policy Recommendations
8:30 am – 3:30 pm

This workshop will examine Qatar’s ecology from the following perspectives:

▪ Qatar’s terrestrial ecology
▪ Qatar’s marine ecology
▪ Climate modelling, climate change and mitigation and adaptation to promote conservation
▪ Economics of biodiversity and Qatar’s ecology
▪ Qatar’s geology and hydrogeology
▪ Legal and ethical aspects of conserving Qatar’s ecology
▪ Ecotourism and the preservation and restoration of Qatar’s ecology
▪ Urban ecology and urban agriculture
▪ Qatar’s ecology and education

Day 2 (11 Oct) Circular Economy No. 1: Development of a Non-Hydrocarbon Circular Economy
8:30 am – 3:30 pm

This workshop considers the concept of circularity from a sectoral aspect, highlighting the need for government policy and legislation for a cross-sector collaborative approach.

Day 3 (12 Oct) Circular Economy No. 2: Energy Transition, Renewables Generation and Water Sustainability
8:30 am – 3:30 pm

This workshop is in partnership with QEERI, where three vital strands in Qatar’s progress towards sustainability and resource resilience are examined.
