Mega sporting events have distinct impacts on their host countries. During this talk, the general background to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar will be presented. Emphasis will be given to the ways on how stadiums in Qatar are made more sustainable through their design, construction and operation.
About the Speaker:
Since starting her role in 2013, Dr Talar Sahsuvaroglu has been involved with the sustainability and environmental requirements of the stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™. Now, her work is focused on implementing the tournament’s Sustainability Strategy to meet the mission and vision of the State of Qatar and FIFA. She is also passionate about teaching and supporting community development.
Dr Sahsuvaroglu received her Bachelor of Environmental Health from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, followed by a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management in Greece. She received her PhD in Health Geography from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, where her research focused on estimating variations in air pollution exposure and the consequent identification of health impacts.
