Shattered, 2023

Featuring Turkish artist Feleksan Onar in a thought-provoking installation about the tragedies behind the earthquakes that devastated Southeast Turkey and Northern Syria.

Onar uses birds as her language and glass as her medium, mimicking a traditional Japanese technique typically used for repairing ceramics.  The birds serve as symbols of both fragility and strength.

Onar was born and raised in Turkey. Her work has been exhibited at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and at the Dresden State Art Collections in Dresden.

Her installation is now on view at the Damascus Room of MIA.
