Experience an ‘Icelandic Weekend’ at InterContinental® Doha
InterContinental® Doha, together with the Icelandic group, is bringing a host of fresh seafood and specialities all the way from Iceland to Doha this 2–3 November.
Chefs from the National Team of Chefs in Iceland, together with Executive Chefs from InterContinental® Doha, will prepare and showcase fresh natural products from Iceland during the two-day event which will be hosted at the Coral All-Day Dining Restaurant.
The products that will be on showcase during the Icelandic event include Arctic Char, Cod, Salmon, Lamb, and SKYR. SKYR is a famous dairy product in Iceland.
Prior to the announcement of this latest promotion, Dr Karl Georg Sigurbjörnsson and Magnús Jónatansson natives of Iceland, together with Abdel Halim Elsalmi, a Qatar citizen, have been working together on a project called Lifriki – an initiative focused on the environment and global education.
According to Elsalmi, he had been to Iceland several times because of Lifriki and was able to experience their food and culture, first-hand. Elsalmi is also the General Manager of Kansas Projects in Qatar.
This led me to the idea of bringing the fresh, natural, and world-class products of Iceland to Qatar, and bridging InterContinental® Doha and the Icelandic team together.’
Qatar and Iceland have many things in common – both nations have a small population and both countries make full use of their natural resources to drive their development.
Elsalmi, together with Dr Sigurbjörnsson and Jónatansson forged a partnership with the largest food producer in Iceland, Kaupfélag Skagfirðinga or The KS Company, to establish a company in Qatar and promote Scandinavian food products here, under the name of Scandinavia Finest. Hopefully, through the Icelandic Weekend, people in Doha will also experience the pure taste of nature from products that can only be sourced from Iceland.
