In line with the directives of the Qatar Central Bank, banks in Qatar will continue to accept the old edition of the banknotes in their branches and cash deposit ATMs until 31 December 2021.

Qatar Central Bank (QCB) previously announced in February that old banknotes will only be accepted until 1 July. Qatar’s new currency notes were introduced in December last year, the 5th series of the Qatar Riyal banknotes, with designs that reflect Qatari tradition, Islamic history, culture, flora and fauna, and development in the field of education, sport and economy.

QCB also stated that after the deadline, the banknotes of the fourth series will become ‘illegal’ and ‘indemnified’ currency, with the holder entitled to recover the value of the remaining notes from QCB within a period not exceeding 10 years from the date of the withdrawal decision.

Banks are reminding the public to exchange their old Qatar currencies before the end of the year.
