Qatar Foundation everyone to visit its new Friday Souq, open every week at Oxygen Park in Education City.
Visitors to the family-friendly market can find something to suit all tastes, including a diverse range of stalls selling food, clothes, handmade products and other goods. There is also a children’s playground and an array of activities for kids, including painting, colouring and henna. The Friday Souq offers a kids’ care facility where parents can leave their children to play while they shop.
Hessa Al Marri, one of the first visitors to visit the Friday Souq, said she was keen to come to Education City to experience the Souq for the first time. She said that she has regularly visited the Torba Farmers Market at QF with her children.
These kinds of events always have a pleasant atmosphere, and Oxygen Park is an excellent location, where various outdoor activities can be enjoyed. These events pose an ideal opportunity for all members of the community to visit QF and see the facilities here, including the Education City Mosque. We look forward to coming to QF for more activities in the future.’
Friday Souq visitor Abdallah Al Yusuf said he chose to spend part of the weekend at the Friday Souq because it allowed him to take his family for lunch and shopping.
Being here in the afternoon in good weather meant we are already having a good time, and we will make sure to visit every Friday.’
Catherine Thompson, who also came to the Friday Souq on its opening day, said that as soon as the weather starts to get better, families are likely to take their children outdoors, away from shopping malls. She said that parks offer the best option.
At Oxygen Park, children get to play in a large green spaces and enjoy different activities; at the same time, people can shop, walk around the various stalls, and eat. It’s convenient, there are plenty of facilities, and it’s well-lit in the evening. Every time I visit Education City, I feel it’s a major centre for recreational and cultural events.’
The Friday Souq is open every Friday until 13 December, from 9 am to 9 pm. All activities for children are free.
