The organising committee Fifth Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference announced that, under the auspices of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the 5th Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference starts today, 2 November 2015 at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) located next to City Centre. 

Staff Brigadier Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Administration of Civil Defense stressed that the conference and exhibition of civil defence is one of the most prominent exhibition in this field at GCC level and stems its importance in the participation of major specialised international companies in the field of civil protection. The latest equipment, machinery and tools and advanced technology that contribute to disaster reduction and control will be displayed in the exhibition, he said. The Director also pointed out that out this year’s exhibition will see a distinct participation of about 97 local, regional and global companies, representing 1250 global manufactures and agencies  for the protection, prevention and safety of persons and institutions.

5th Civil Defence

Brigadier Al Suwaidi  stated that accompanying conference is dealing with one of the most important issues at the global level ‘Sustainable Development and Disaster Reduction’, where group of scientists, experts and researchers who specialise in the field of civil defence and disaster reduction.

He said:

We hope that the conference will be a success in addressing the issue which has attracted interest world public opinion,  as many countries are exposed to many of volcanoes, earthquakes and other hazards that require more efforts and coordination and cooperation among all states to protect communities from the harm of serious disasters.’

Brigadier Aman Saad Al Sulaiti , Assistant Director General of the General Administration of Civil Defence said that the exhibition and conference at its fifth session comes as a continuation of the objectives set since its inception in 2007 to create a forum to contribute to raising the level of awareness of safety measures among all segments of society, institutions and authorities in the state as well as an opportunity to see the latest products, equipment and mechanisms Worldwide. He added that the exhibition and conference has earned a good reputation at all levels and it embodies the constructive and fruitful cooperation between all state authorities. The theme of the conference ‘Sustainable Development and Disaster Reduction’ was chosen carefully as  it’s one of the most important topics that has been discussed globally with great attention as well as by relevant international organizations. The theme also falls in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and Sustainable Development.

On his part, Abdul Latif Al Mahmoud, Chief Executive Officer of Dar Al-Sharq Group and the Vice-Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Conference, thanked the Ministry of Interior represented by the General Administration of Civil Defense for the confidence accorded to Dar Al-Sharq in assigning the responsibility of organising of Civil Defence Exhibition since the first session.

He said that the exhibition and conference has definitely come a long way to reach this level of the global importance with the efforts of those who support of the Organizing Committee, headed by Brig. Abdullah Al Suwaidi to become one of the main specialized events in this field regionally and globally.

 

He added that for this exhibition and conference has a good impact in introducing the most prominent technology and equipment in the field of civil defense for the local and regional stake holders. The specialized workshops in the field of civil defense has done a good job in educating technical personnel and local businesses with expertise from specialists and their experiences in dealing with accidents and disasters.

 

Major Hussein explained that the conference will discuss nine working papers in three sessions.  The first session will discuss sustainable development and role of individuals and institutions in accomplishing it. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Maraikhi,  director of the International Development Department at the Foreign Ministry, will present a working paper on development at all levels, and how to sustain it through the role of individuals and institutions, ministries, companies and all sectors of society through a future vision that will ensure long-term sustainability.
