The Muhammad Bin Hamad Al-Thani Centre for Muslim Contributions to Civilisation (CMCC), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) College of Islamic Studies (CIS), is hosting a symposium on the life and works of Al-Mas’udi Abul Hasan Ali, a world-class historian, geographer, and a prolific writer. The event will be held on the sidelines of the Doha International Book Fair 2017, and will include notable speakers from the college. Speaking at the event will be Dr Aisha Yousef Al-Mannai, CMCC Director, and Dr Dheen Mohammed, CIS professor.
The event will be conducted in Arabic.
The Translation and Interpreting Institute at HBKU College of Humanities and Social Sciences is hosting a workshop on the fundamentals of interpreting modes and techniques. Participants will be exposed to information processing, note taking, and simultaneous interpreting. Various texts and a variety of accents will be used in the state-of-the-art lab, in addition to live exercises in the interpreting booth.
The workshop will be conducted in English and Arabic.
Darb Al Saai National Day Activities 2017

In preparation for Qatar National Day on 18 December, the annual Darb Al Saai festivities will commence on Friday, 8 December, and will feature a wide range of family-friendly activities. This year, HBKU is organising a number of educational activities covering themes of sustainability, biomedical sciences, computing, and humanities. HBKU Press will also be conducting a number of exercises, garnering interest from children and adults alike. Be sure to visit the HBKU booth, from 8 – 20 December to learn more.
WORKSHOP: Translation Technologies: Mastering SDL Trados

The Translation and Interpreting Institute at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is hosting a training workshop on CAT tools – computer applications that facilitate translation by providing a platform that assists with automatic translations. CAT tools play a pivotal role in archiving previous translations into a database, together with the original texts, thereby increasing the efficiency of the entire translation process.
This workshop is conducted in English and Arabic.
