The German Business Council Qatar (GBCQ) hosted its Annual General Assembly on 17 September 2019 at Marsa Malaz Kempinski Hotel, Doha.

The meeting concluded an outstanding year in Qatar-Germany business relations witnessing a visit by HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and a large business delegation to Germany on the occasion of the Business and Investment Forum held in Berlin, the establishment of the Joint Task Force on Trade and Investment and the 6th session of the Joint Economic Commission co-chaired by HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Commerce and Industry and his German counterpart.

German Ambassador to Qatar Hans-Udo Muzel stressed that:

The strategic character of German-Qatar business and investment relation is a success story, built on mutual trust, reliability and excellent quality of goods and services for more than 40 years now. German companies, including in particular many SMEs, are a preferred partner for Qatar in implementing the country’s National Vision 2030 and in the preparations for the FIFA World Cup hosted by Qatar in 2022. The German Business Council is a crucial catalyst in further strengthening Qatari-German business relations. I am looking forward to continue working with GBCQ and our Qatari partners towards this end.’

The GBCQ annual meeting was presided over by GBCQ Chairman Henning Zimmermann, Schenker Logistics WLL, in the attendance of all board members and council members. HE Ambassador Hans-Udo Muzel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Qatar and Honorary Board Member of GBCQ, and HE Sheikh Nawaf Bin Nasser Al Thani, Chairman NBK & Sons Holding attended as guests of honour.

During the General Assembly, the Board was officially dismissed and members elected a new Board:

Chairman position: Henning Zimmermann, Schenker Logistics WLL

Board members: Adrian Wood, Siemens WLL (Deputy Chairman); Elias Chedid, SEIB Insurance; Peter Neuschaefer, Dorsch Qatar and Hans-Guenther Jaeger, DB Engineering and Consulting GmbH.

The GBCQ was founded in December 2002 in Doha by private representatives of the German business community in Doha. Being a non-governmental and non-profit seeking association its aim is to provide a local networking platform for German and local companies in Doha. The Council organises social and business events on a regular basis for members and non-members. Premium partner of the Council is Qatar International Automobiles (MAN).

GBCQ is managed by the German Industry and Commerce Office Qatar (AHK). AHK Qatar is the official institution authorised by the German Federal Government and the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce to represent the interests of German companies and associations in Qatar.
