A Grade 8 student from the Swiss International School in Qatar (SISQ) was among the jurors in the 9th edition of the Ajyal Film Festival organised by the Doha Film Institute (DFI)

This ever-popular Jury programme has been a valuable learning opportunity for students to acquire knowledge about diverse cultures through the global stories presented in the films. As Jurors, students watched selected films, discussed with fellow jurors and film experts, voted for the winners and bring positive change far beyond Ajyal.

Malak had a very good impression of the festival. She said it was an amazing experience to be one of the Ajyal Jury this year. Aside from watching and rating films, she also participated in workshops and discussions with very successful film and movie personalities.

The pandemic did not stop the Ajyal Team from launching their festival and doing such amazing things like they always do. I highly encourage my fellow SISQ students to participate in next year’s edition.

According to her father, Abdelkader, Malak has always been motivated to undertake this voluntary experience, inspired by her love for cinematic works and her desire to explore the world of filmmaking. He said they are honoured and grateful for the certificate sent to Malak by the festival organisers, signed by HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani herself, in appreciation of her contribution as a juror which, as they put it, inspires film culture and education among the youth in Qatar. Well done, Malak!
