The Cultural Village Foundation – Katara, in cooperation with the Embassy of Poland in Qatar recently opened a photo exhibition of ‘The Green City’ to showcase their efforts to preserve the natural environment in Qatar.

Green City ExhibitionKatara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti inaugurated the exhibition along with the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Qatar, HE Janusz Janke. Al Sulaiti praised the creative initiative by the Embassy of Poland. He said that the exhibition is one of the many cultural cooperation between Qatar and Poland.

The photo exhibition included 21 photographs showcasing the greenery in Doha and the natural landscapes in Qatar, and the efforts undertaken by the government to combat climate change.

Ambassador Janke mentioned during the opening of the exhibition that Poland hosted the climate summit earlier this December and that Qatar has been a great stakeholder in the efforts to protect the environment, one of the reasons why this exhibition is being held in Qatar. He added that they had thought of an educational and cultural event to mark the climate summit and to raise awareness about climate change among the youth, that is why they started with this initiative.

One of the best way to promote awareness is through modern art and we have chosen photography because it is readily available even through smart phones, especially among students.’

Majority of the participants were students from local schools and universities in Qatar. Over 100 photographs were submitted but only 21 were selected for the exhibition.
